JOIN OUR BOARD
We are searching for new members to join our board! Our mission is to provide stewardship of the Superior National Forest by engaging volunteers and partner organizations in recreation and natural resource projects. Northwoods Volunteer Connection (NVC) serves as a critical partner to the Forest by helping to increase the capacity of the U.S. Forest Service to clear trails, keep campsites clean, and maintain access through volunteerism and partnerships.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Northwoods Volunteer Connection board members are expected to provide oversight of organizational activities and engage in strategic planning, board development, and fundraising activities. We expect board members to make a time commitment of 3-5 hours per month on average. Other responsibilities include:
-
Attending monthly board meetings throughout the year. Board meetings are typically held on a weeknight and are conducted remotely.
-
Supporting, advising, and evaluating NVC’s Executive Director, ensuring effective planning, budgeting, financial controls, and alignment with NVC’s mission.
-
Serving as an advocate for Northwoods Volunteer Connection, promoting the mission and goals of the organization, and championing NVC in personal and professional networks.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility
NVC believes that the Superior National Forest and all public lands are stronger and better when everyone feels welcome and is involved in stewardship. We welcome all interested persons to apply. NVC strives to ensure, cultivate, and promote a culture of inclusivity and belonging for all staff, board members, and volunteers.
Professional Knowledge and Skills
Northwoods Volunteer Connection board members should have a passion for stewarding public lands and a connection to the Northwoods of northeastern Minnesota. We welcome applications from all professional backgrounds, but especially those with expertise in areas such as: nonprofit management, fundraising and development, financial oversight, environmental stewardship, volunteer coordination, or community engagement.
